We will come up with a new logo in the future!

Hi all – we’re excited to launch a 4-part pilot series on AI for private equity (which we will continue if feedback is positive). It’s become very clear to me (including after conversations with Ed Brandman, ex-CTO of KKR), that the private equity community craves more AI content and practical applications.

So, we’re excited to launch this series with Davis—who brings a unique combination of both private equity and AI backgrounds. He currently works at an AI for Finance company that works directly with top funds that are spending multi-million $ to deploy AI.

Today’s article is a warm-up. Over the next 3 weeks on Wednesday, we will build up to more detailed topics:

  • Issue 2: AI as your first-pass analyst: getting 80% of a market map done before lunch

  • Issue 3: How to write a good prompt (my top 5 prompts in PE!)

  • Issue 4: Identifying and quantifying AI opportunities in your portco

State of Play

Hi I’m Davis—an ex-PE investor who’s spent the last two years building and deploying AI tools across the world's largest investment banks, hedge funds, and private equity firms. My ex-colleagues in PE constantly ask me about the latest in AI and how to use it best, which made me realize that there's actually a massive gap between what's happening at the biggest firms and what most people even know is quite possible.

That's why we’re bringing this to Road to Carry. Every Wednesday, Edwin and I will be closing that gap, one use case at a time.

In this post, we will go through the exact prompts you can use to get going with AI today:

  • CIM Analysis

  • IC Memo Writing

  • LP Update Draft

First, What Are The Biggest PE Firms Doing with AI?

To help unlock some unknowns, let us paint you a picture of what the largest PE firms are doing today. I've seen firsthand what dedicated AI teams and multi-million experimental budgets actually produce. They're not just buying tools. They're reorganizing teams and org structures around them. Here's what that actually looks like in practice.
